Power of identity

I think it is important to understand the power of identity. It influences the perception, the sympathy and empathy, the understanding, and the behavior of people.

But people still do not fully understand it. That is because it is rare to see the examples of identity influencing human thoughts and behaviors.

So, I am asking people here to come up with examples of identity influencing human behavior, and write them in the comment.

I know this is an old story, but I think that OJ Simpson case illustrates how identity influences people's thoughts.

OJ Simpson is a former NFL star of African American origin married to a white woman. His wife and her friend were murdered on June 12, 1994. Some days later, he was charged with that crime.

Throughout the OJ Simpson murder trial, White and Black Americans consumed the same information from mass media, but they formed different opinions: White thought he was guilty and Black thought otherwise. 20 years after the difference is narrower but still exists.

This is a good example that how identity influences the thought of people. White and Black Americans watched and read the same information from TV and newspapers but the opinions they developed were just opposite. This is the most illustrating example of human identity influencing human thought.
